PV Slates on Grade II listed cottage

The Challenge

This 200 year old cottage had fallen into complete disrepair. The rebuild had to emulate the design and character of the original, while also allowing for the technology of modern living.
How could a solar PV system be fitted within the planning restrictions and enable the occupants to generate their own green electricity while still benefiting from the aesthetics of a beautiful listed Cotswold cottage?

The Solution

PV Slates are solar panels that look just like light grey natural slates. For this highly sensitive project, custom 'infill' slates were used around the edges of the roof. These are made of the same toughened glass as the PV Slates and were made to fit the roof exactly. Standard sizes are often possible if there is an overhang as we can specify the ideal width and match this on the other side. The edges can be finished with our special verge trays, which we can provide to match on the natural slate side as well.
